WADED v1.23 update notes from the author
In this file I'll be noting things that have been added or changed to
WADED since the last version, since it's hard to update the documents
regularly (and then it's even harder for you to find the new information).
Version 1.20 has been quite rushed lately. Due to lack of time, it's
been hard to get this version out. My interest in programming WADED the last
week and a half had been a little low, however it's boosted back up again.
Along with that I have a bit more time. I expect to complete version 1.30
very soon, with quite a few more new features and changes.
Anyhow, in this version, the NODES builder is flawless (well, I can't
say for damn sure, but I so far it's worked excellent). It works faster than
all builders I have seen (and it's graphical). Not to mention, it seems to be
doing the best job. It creates the fewest NODES and SEGS (hence less splits),
which also keeps the .WAD file size down to a minimum. The greatest benefit
of the NODES builder working now, is that you shouldn't have to run any other
program to build the NODES. And you won't have to worry about WADED creating
NODES that cause DOOM to have areas you can't walk into and floating THINGS.
Along with the NODES builder being fixed, a lot of other problems with
saving and HOM effect while playing DOOM have been fixed. If all related bugs
are gone, I'm not completely sure. The only real problem that occurs is when
the user of WADED creates something not valid. The next version of WADED is
going to have a complete checker, so that you won't even have to worry about
user mistakes (or lack of knowledge on creating DOOM maps... sorry I haven't
a tutorial yet! I know creating maps isn't too simple).
Last of all, when you go to load a .WAD file now, WADED will bring up
a pick list of files. This just makes it easier to pick which file to load.
If you'd like to type in the file name like in previous versions, just hit
"L". You can also switch to the main DOOM WAD file by hitting "D". And to
pick which map you're editing within a .WAD file (whether it's the main DOOM
WAD file or a PWAD file), you'll be prompted when you first load it which map
to edit. From there after, you can hit "M" (the "Pick Map" selection) to
change which map you're currently editing within the currently loaded .WAD
file.
Oh yes, I'm including RAGE.WAD with WADED for now. It's a map created
from scratch by Gary Bertagnolli using WADED completely. It's a cool level,
especially considering it was his first attempt to create one. There's more
information in the RAGE.TXT file.
In version 1.21, I added a thing that will make WADED beep instead of
exiting to DOS in case of an error. That way the odds of loosing your level
are less if something goes wrong.
In version 1.22, I fixed a bug that only appeared in version 1.21,
that prevented you from loading any files. It was a simple bug in the
programming, yet it had a drastic effect on the end product.
Read the WADED.HIS file for version 1.23, I pratically explained it
all there...
Sorry if I missed anything, I should have time to get everything put
together better in version 1.30. Thanks for reading this file.
